The design of the Hügelhaus (Housing Hill) by Peter Faller, Roland Frey, Hermann Schröder, and Claus Schmidt combines qualities of detached houses such as private outdoor spaces and a variety of floor plans within a denser and more economical housing type. Realized in Marl in 1967 as one of the first examples of a terraced housing typology, this house with its iconic triangular section was further developed along the construction of four evolving Hügelhäuser.
The film portrays the unique exterior and interior spaces of this housing type. Through residents' narratives, it reveals the long-standing social networks and neighborly relationships that have formed over time, as well as the emotional connection to the diverse living environments offered by the Hügelhaus.
A film by Jingjing Du, Vilyana Marcheva, Leonard Wertgen, Marius Helten, Jens Franke, Florian Fischer-Almannai.
